🔬 Professor Beryl Nashar
Geologist Beryl Nashar was born in Maryville in 1923 and educated locally before university study. She joined Newcastle University College in 1955 and became an important figure in the development of geology and science education at the university. Her work combined research with leadership and advocacy for women’s participation in science. The university remembers her as one of its founding figures. The Hunter coast connection includes both her Newcastle upbringing and the substantial professional career through which she helped expand scientific education in the city.
